Message from the President
Welcome to the newly remodeled North
Dakota Society for Respiratory Care (NDSRC)
web site!
The NDSRC is a proud affiliate of the American Association
for Respiratory Care. We are committed to our profession
and our fellow therapists in the state of North Dakota.
Our goal is to keep you up to date with not only the
changes in the profession but also the legislative issues
that are vital to this profession and the patients to
whom we dedicate our time and talents.
In 2008-2009, there are several issues nationally
and regionally that will have an impact on our profession.
The NDSRC is working at both levels to represent and
advance the Respiratory profession when possible.
Political Advocacy Contact Team (PACT) continues to
be an important tool for Respiratory Care Practitioners
to unite in addressing issues affecting our profession
on a State and National level. Val Tomhave and Sandi
Sanford have done an excellent job of coordinating the
program in North Dakota and we need the continued support
of all Respiratory Care Practitioners to be involved.
Even when a specific issue does not affect your individual
job, it is still your profession.
Most of you are probably aware of the credentialing
issues. Nationally, there is an effort to discontinue
the CRT credential and move forward with the RRT as
the standard of our profession. There are several ramifications
of this issue, including state licensure regulations,
school accreditation, and available workforce.
A national issue that North Dakota has successfully
dealt with is Polysomnography. North Dakota has a history
of RTs working in Sleep Medicine along with non-RT personnel.
Polysomnography Technicians are now licensed in North
Dakota after meeting certain education and credential
criteria, ensuring the best care for those patients
in our state.
Finally, it is important that all licensed Respiratory
Care Practitioners in the State are AARC members. There
is really no excuse to not belong. You are a healthcare
professional and it is necessary to lend your voice
to the national organization that represents you. I
would challenge all RTs in North Dakota to become an
AARC member now, your membership is important!
